What keeps you motivated at work ?

As a trader covering money markets, my role requires me to keep abreast of the global geopolitical and economic landscape as well as the movements in the financial markets. There are always new products to learn and new markets to explore which keeps me constantly engaged. My superiors are always encouraging us to deepen our technical expertise. Pursuing and eventually completing both Chartered Financial Analyst and Financial Risk Management certifications also helped to keep the adrenaline high over the last few years!
Lawrence Lee Liang Wei, 2008 intake, Currently a trader with UOB Singapore, Global Markets and Investments Management

What is the most interesting project you have handled ?

As a Management Associate with the Capital Management (Finance) division, I was tasked to develop a strategic “Banking Industry Analysis” report which analyses UOB market position within the banking industry in Thailand. Today, the report is a strategic tool, amongst others, used by senior management to track our business performance, identify market opportunities and make strategic decisions. I am very glad to be given the invaluable opportunity to express my ideas and make a difference!
Nitichai Jearkjirm, 2011 intake, Currently with UOB Thailand Capital Management team

What can a fresh graduate like me expect during my first year of work at UOB ?

From day one, my buddy and I were involved in on-going projects and active discussions with the management. We also had the privilege of participating in a regional transformation project that was privy to a selected few in the division. The opportunity to present my ideas to CEO and Head of Divisions, as well as hear their feedback and perspectives was a very meaningful experience for me! That aside, being surrounded by people who are not just smart and talented but equally passionate, convinced me that UOB would be the perfect place to kick-start my career.
Amanda Low Yufen, 2010 intake, Currently with UOB Malaysia Corporate Banking

What are the challenges that you face in your work at UOB ?

As a Commercial Banking Relationship Manager, my primary role is to engage business owners and directors of companies. I need to quickly earn their respect by being very familiar with their businesses, the challenges they are facing and the products and services which UOB could offer to help them grow their business. The opportunity to learn about different industries and businesses, and the ability to provide excellent advisory to my customers are what I enjoy most about my job! Daniel Surya Pratama Tedja, 2009 intake, Currently with UOB Indonesia Commercial Banking

What kind of experiences have you obtained in the Management Associate Programme ?

During the programme, I had the opportunity to be exposed to different functions of the Bank. I was able to have a holistic understanding of the business from various perspectives. During my rotations, I managed to understand the integration of the business and operations within the Bank. In addition, I was engaged in a Technology and Operations project to analyse the workflow across different departments and functions, in which I was able to utilise my knowledge learned during my rotations. Further to my rotations, I had an enjoyable experience taking part in our UOB corporate events, including being the Master of Ceremony in our Annual Dinner and Heart Beat Run.
Kelvin Kong, 2013 Intake, Currently with UOB Hong Kong Corporate Banking

What do you like most from the Management Associate Programme ?

Personally, I enjoy the opportunity to get a holistic overview into the UOB business. Specifically, home-function and cross-function rotation offers the chance for me to work closely with colleagues from various teams, while cross-city rotation provides great opportunities to gain insights into the business from different markets/ cities’ perspectives. The rotation prepares me with resourceful internal network and extensive experience in dealing with my work. Furthermore, I am able to benefit from the guidance and tutorial from my mentor, experience sharing from my colleagues, and feedback from my customers.
